Cookie policy

Cookies are small data files that a website stores on or reads from your device. They can keep a session working, remember a preference, support security or help a website understand how it is used.

Similar “storage and access technologies” include browser local storage, pixels, scripts, tags, software development kits, device identifiers and other methods that store information on, or access information from, a device. The rules can apply whether or not the information identifies you.

A first-party technology is operated for the website you are visiting. A third-party technology is supplied by another organisation. A session item normally expires when the browser closes; a persistent item remains until its stated expiry or until you delete it.

In this policy, “cookies” includes comparable storage and access technologies unless the context requires otherwise.

Technologies covered by this policy

The word “cookies” is used in this policy as convenient shorthand. The same legal and practical principles may apply to browser local storage, session storage, software development kits, pixels, tags, scripts, device identifiers, cache-based techniques and other methods that store information on, or gain access to information from, a user’s device.

A cookie is usually a small text file placed on a browser or device. It may contain a random identifier, preference, timestamp or other limited value. Some cookies last only for the browser session, while persistent cookies remain until their stated expiry or until they are deleted.

First-party and third-party technologies

First-party technologies are set by, or on behalf of, Insightnix through the domain you are visiting. Third-party technologies are controlled by another organisation. The fact that a technology is third-party does not automatically determine whether consent is required; its purpose and the applicable legal exception are also relevant.

Personal information

Cookie identifiers and technical records may be personal information where they relate to an identifiable user or device. Their use is therefore also subject to our Privacy Policy and applicable data-protection principles, including fairness, transparency, minimisation, security and retention limitation.

Insightnix loads some technical resources from third-party providers to deliver styling, icons, charts, maps and other website functions. When your browser requests a resource directly from another provider, that provider may receive request information such as your IP address, browser details, the requested resource, time and referring page.

These resources are delivered from content-delivery networks for libraries such as Tailwind CSS, Font Awesome, Chart.js and D3.js, and for map resources. A technical request of this kind does not necessarily mean that the provider sets a cookie. Any cookie set on this website appears in the table in section 3.

Third-party websites opened through external links apply their own cookie and privacy rules. We do not control technologies used after you leave Insightnix.

Strictly necessary and security functions

Necessary technologies support core page delivery, secure form submission, abuse prevention, session continuity and the storage of any preference you set. Disabling them may prevent the website or a requested feature from operating correctly.

Analytics and measurement

We do not currently use analytics or measurement cookies. If we introduce them, any analytics not covered by a valid statutory exception will not be activated before consent, and this policy will be updated to describe the provider, purpose and your choices.

Marketing and cross-site tracking

Insightnix does not use advertising cookies to build cross-site profiles or sell audiences. If this position ever changes, the relevant technologies, providers, purposes and choices will be disclosed before activation and the required consent will be obtained.

Embedded content

Pages may link to, or in future embed, content supplied by another service. An embedded chart, video, map, document or social-media feature may allow the provider to receive technical information or place its own technologies. Where this is optional, we will seek consent before loading it or use a click-to-load mechanism where practicable.

International access

A third-party resource provider may process technical information outside the United Kingdom. Where personal information is transferred internationally by us or a processor, the transfer is addressed as described in our Privacy Policy.

PECR generally requires clear and comprehensive information and consent before information is stored on, or accessed from, your device, and any consent must meet UK GDPR standards. The law also contains exceptions, including for strictly necessary functions used to provide an online service you have expressly requested.

The cookie we currently set is strictly necessary to run the website, so it falls within that exception and does not require consent. Because we set no optional cookies, there is nothing for you to accept or decline at this time, and we do not display a consent banner.

If we later introduce any non-exempt cookie, such as analytics, we will provide clear information and obtain your consent before it is set, present accept and reject options equally, and update this policy accordingly. Refusing any future optional cookies will not prevent access to the public dashboards.

Recognised exceptions

Consent is not required for technologies that are strictly necessary to provide an online service expressly requested by the user, among other limited exceptions. We rely on this exception only for the necessary session cookie described above, and only for that purpose.

If optional cookies are introduced

Should optional purposes be added in future, choices would be presented by meaningful category rather than bundled together, rejecting optional cookies would be as easy as accepting them, and a record of the choice may be kept to implement and demonstrate it. Any such record would not be used for advertising.

You can inspect, block or delete cookies and site data through your browser or device settings. Blocking all storage may prevent sessions, forms or other essential functions from working correctly.

Browser controls

Most browsers allow you to view, block and delete cookies; clear site data; limit third-party cookies; and control tracking-prevention settings. Instructions differ by browser and device. Blocking all storage may affect forms, security controls or other requested functions.

Private browsing and multiple devices

A preference is usually associated with the browser or device on which it was made. Private-browsing sessions, cleared storage, a different browser or a different device may behave differently.

Removing existing data

You can remove existing site data through your browser at any time. A provider may retain limited server-side records where another lawful basis or legal obligation applies, as explained in the relevant privacy information.

We may update this policy when website technologies, providers, purposes or legal requirements change. The last-updated date at the top identifies the current version.

If a change requires a new consent—for example, introducing a non-exempt analytics cookie—we will request that consent before activating the relevant technology. Previous use will not be treated as covering materially different purposes.
